ABOUT ME Hello! My name is Johanna. I have been rowing since the summer of 2006, just before starting my freshman year of high school at Holy Names Academy in Seattle, Washington. The coach put me in a boat the first week of practice as a rower, to get a sense and feel of the stroke, and I knew from there I was meant to be a coxswain. I coxed my first year for my school team, and then transferred to Pocock Rowing Center. I coxed in college, masters, and now am embarking on the exciting journey of coastal rowing. During those years, as a result of both back surgery and anxiety, I developed an essential tremor that interferes with activities of daily living. This is why I call myself the “para coxswain.” My goal is to create awareness for the para rowing community and create new opportunities in that community for future rowers and coxswains.
