The Spid Werkz Foundation is thrilled to celebrate an incredible hometown victory. Roanoke, VA local and Spid Werkz athlete Abi Snyder has just been crowned the USA Cycling National Champion in Singlespeed XCO (Cross-Country Olympic).
Winning a national title is a massive achievement on its own, but securing the Stars and Stripes jersey on your own local trails makes it truly special. The 2026 USA Cycling Endurance Mountain Bike National Championships brought the best riders in the country to Virginia’s Blue Ridge, and Abi delivered a flawless, high-torque performance at Explore Park to take the win.
The One-Gear Mindset
Singlespeed XCO racing requires a completely different level of grit and technical execution. There is no bailing out into an easier gear when the gradient kicks up, and there’s no spinning out on the descents. It’s a delicate balance of pacing, momentum management, and raw, out-of-the-saddle power.
Racing on the multi-lap Explore Park XCO course meant Abi had to expertly manage her energy output across technical singletrack, punchy climbs, and fast descents. Executing this perfectly under the pressure of a national championship—and the added weight of the home-crowd expectations—proves exactly why she is at the pinnacle of the sport.
The “Ride Fierce” Hustle
Abi’s approach to high performance is the definition of staying “Spid.” Rather than fitting into the traditional factory team mold, she built her own privateer program, Ride Fierce Racing. This independent model gives her the freedom to pursue the events that align with her goals across multiple disciplines, including Enduro and Cross-Country Marathon (XCM), while partnering with brands she truly believes in.
Her impact goes far beyond the race course. When she isn’t putting out massive watts on the bike, Abi is heavily invested in her Roanoke community:
- Mentorship: She coaches the junior mountain bike development team with Take Aim Cycling, getting more youth and young women involved in the sport.
- Community Engagement: She works at the local bike shop and serves as a strong vocal advocate for cyclist safety and trail access in the Roanoke area.
- Advocacy: She actively champions mental health awareness and the advancement of women in sport.
