We are absolutely thrilled to announce the official launch of the Spidcast, the brand-new podcast from the Spid Werkz Foundation!
Hosted by our Spid Werkz Board and community, the Spidcast is designed to take listeners behind the scenes of elite sports and high performance.
At the Spid Werkz Foundation, our mission is to support Olympic, Paralympic, and other elite athletes competing in sports that are underfunded and underrepresented in the mainstream. We are dedicated to helping these incredible competitors bridge support and funding gaps so they can achieve their ultimate goals.
The Spidcast is an extension of that mission. On this podcast, we will be:
- Exploring all things Spid and high performance.
- Diving deep into the personal journeys of our athletes.
- Discussing the gritty, behind-the-scenes realities of elite sport, including training philosophies, nutrition, and mental fortitude.
- Highlighting the people who make up our incredible community.
Now Streaming: Season 1, Episode 1
For our inaugural episode, we couldn’t think of a better guest than Dr. Stephen Schaefer—one of our superstar 2025 Spid Werkz sponsored athletes.
By day, Stephen is a semiconductor materials researcher, and by weekend, he is a fiercely competitive domestic elite cyclist. In this highly emotional and inspiring episode, Stephen sits down to discuss his turbulent 2025 racing season.
Stephen opens up about the intersection of peak athletic performance and heavy personal tragedy, detailing the timeline of his father’s terminal colon cancer diagnosis just a month before his biggest race of the year. He shares powerful insights on how the structure and rigor of sport provided him with a vital anchor and a sense of security during an incredibly difficult chapter of his life.
Listeners will also get a thrilling tactical breakdown of the massive 102-mile El Tour de Tucson. Stephen walks us through the race dynamics, his daring 40-mile breakaway with teammate Nikos, and the euphoric, storybook ending of winning the race in honor of his father, who passed away the morning of the event.
Whether you are an elite competitor, an everyday athlete, or just someone who loves an incredible story of human resilience, you won’t want to miss this conversation.
